Grizzly Bears
On our way to Yellowstone, we stopped in at Grizzly Bear Encounters, a place for mistreated grizzly bears to live out their lives in relative comfort. When they’re born in captivity, or introduced to people, they can’t be released into the wild. This place gives them some space (small, but bigger than your average zoo pen) to run around in, and the entrance fees go towards supporting education campaigns. We saw Jake and Maggie, two 6-year-old rescues.
The bear they’ve had the longest is Brutus, born in captivity and rescued when he was only the size of a squirrel. He’s only been around people so he’s fairly docile, and appears in movies and TV programs. You can check out video clips he’s done on his website.
