Arizona: Navaho National Monument

We rolled into NNM around 10pm. Tess had some directions to the park that we
decided to follow, but after going half a mile down what would charitably be
called a road we decided to go back and follow some signs. Setting up camp
wasn’t too difficult with the moon being nearly full, so we got to bed without
too much trouble. During the night, we heard two coyotes, one off the front
end of the tent and the other off the back, howling into the night sky.

We woke up at sunrise, planning to take a 5 mile hike to see the ruins of a
Navaho cave dwelling. When we got to the visitors center, though, we learned
that the 5 mile Tess and her family took when they were here is a guided tour
and wouldn’t start for another couple hours. Instead, we decided to do the
short hike to the Betatakin overlook. From there, we could see the ruins which
is practically the same thing.
