Michigan -> Chicago
We left in two cars on the 9th. Meg and Arlen left around 10am in Tess’ Civic coupe, while Tess and I stayed around to pick up some food and pack Baby Blue. We hit the road around 1.
We all got into Chicago around 3 CST and hung out with Tess’s friend Faith who recently moved to Chi-town. After getting dinner and drinks at the delicious Chicago Diner we took the El downtown. My favorite part of visiting new cities is looking at the skyline. Growing up in DC where the heights of buildings are capped makes it exciting for me to be in cities with big buildings. We wandered into Millennium Park and visiting the various exhibits (is that what they’re called?) I really liked the fountain with the faces; I think Tess has a good picture of me staring up at it.
After that, it was off to Lake Michigan. We walked down the dock behind the Columbia Yacht Club boat and hung out on the end of it, staring off into the night.
After Faith’s roommate went back home, we tried to go get a drink at the in-construction Trump Tower. We got to the bar and sat down to enjoy the view for a few minutes while we looked at the drink menu. When we realized that a Corona was $8, we high-tailed it out of there.
Back uptown, we went to Faith’s hole-in-the-wall bar, the Long Room. It’s pretty much what it sounds like; a long room with a bar along the first half. I didn’t feel like drinking anymore after all the Margaritas I drank at the diner, but everyone else had a drink or two while we hung out in the back. It’s a quick bus ride back to Faith’s apartment from there too, so we didn’t have long to travel to get back to bed.
