R.I.P Cell Phone / Long Live GrandCentral
It’s appearing unlikely that I’m going to recover my cell phone from my European trip. I’ll be getting a new one when I get to Northampton, but in the meantime I’m phone-less. If you want to call me, your best option is my GrandCentral number. It’s in my Facebook profile, or you can e-mail/IM me for it. It doesn’t do text messages, so those should just get...

Yes, I know that if you try to solve a problem with regular expressions you have two problems, but I do use them occasionally.

I took a class on Genocide at Hampshire; it’s good to see that even though “never again” has become a joke, at least the world is doing something.

Paris, second half
Day 3
This was another full day; I left the hostel around 930 and didn’t get back
until about 2100. My first stop was Versailles, crazy big palace of Louises
the XIV, XV, and XVI. It’s outside Paris, but it’s easy to get to on the RER
(not sure what that stands for). Again the Museum Pass made it easy to get it,
although I didn’t really notice a line. The palace is...
Paris
Day 1
It was already suppose to be a 14-hour train ride from Madrid to Paris, the
longest of my trip. It was 90 minutes late getting to Paris, though, making it
a gnarly 15.5-hour train ride. It’s also on this train ride that I figured out
that I lost my cell phone. I think I left it in the Cinque Terre, but I
haven’t heard back from either of the hostels. I’m not too upset...
Madrid
(Sorry about the delay on these two posts…)
I’m writing this from the night train to Paris, my last real stop of the trip.
I’ve also just found out that I’ve lost my cell phone (probably in the Cinque
Terre, the last time I remember having it out). But I’m trying not to let that
get me down, since I had a really good time in Madrid.
I had a good time in Madrid,...
Barcelona, for real this time
I walked, mostly. After getting up at 9 (late for me on this trip) and making
myself breakfast (eggs and an orange), I took a partially-guided stroll down
La Rambla; Barcelona’s main street. Rick Steves had some stuff in his
guidebook, so I looked at those things but mostly just strolled down the
mile-long strip. I noticed some stuff that I might go back to see tomorrow:
the Maritime...
Milan; Barcelona day 1
My night train to Barcelona was out of Milan, so I took a train over there in the morning. I wandered around with a girl I’d met in the Cinque Terre, but the only interesting thing we saw was a castle.
I got into Barcelona around 930, and to the tourist office around 1030 after walking the 1.2+ kilometers from the train station to the tourist office. Unfortunately, all morning my stomach...
Cinque Terre
Sundays are rough for the traveller here. Nearly everything is closed,
including the grocery store. There’s a place with food, luckily, so I’ll be
able to get a drink (or several) and some dinner.
Included on this list of closed places are every place to stay. I tried the
hostel. Closed today. I tried all three of the room-booking services,
closed. I asked at a café and at the...
